Find general information about the Transcoding Webservice here.
The Transcoding Webservice is based on PHP Laravel and can be downloaded from Github: https://github.com/E-Learning-FHDO/transcoding-webservice
There you will also find detailed step-by-step installation instructions. Please also note the system requirements there.
After the installation, first create a new user account for the VIMP installation to be connected in the "Admin -> Users" area.
Enter a valid e-mail address as well as a meaningful name.
You need the API token for the configuration in VIMP, as "Url" please enter the URL of your VIMP installation (e.g. https://my.vimpportal.com).
Under "Profile id" you can choose between three preconfigured profiles. If your server does not have a graphics card, please select "libx264". If your server has an Nvidia graphics card, select "h264_nvenc" and for all other graphics cards select "h264_vaapi".
Furthermore you can still set the user role (e.g. "User") and optionally the permissions of the user within the Transcoding Webservice.
After you have created the new user account, please switch to your VIMP installation and configure the Transcoding Webservice under Configuration -> Transcoding -> Transcoding Webservice.
At "Transcoding API key" enter the API key created above.
At "Transcoding Webservice URL" enter the absolute URL to the Transcoding Webservice (e.g. https://transcodingwebservice.vimpportal.com).
Optionally, you can also specify whether the uploaded source files should be stored on your VIMP server or deleted again after transcoding. Our recommendation is to always keep the source data, since they are needed for possible post-transcoding into new formats.
After you have made all settings, you only have to activate the Transcoding Webservice in VIMP. You do this at Configuration -> Transcoding -> Transcoding Settings. Select the option "Transcoding Webservice" at "Transcoder type".
From this point on, all media will be transcoded via the Transcoding Webservice.
